Testing the software for the EP20 automatic driving system from AVP Technologies (Russia)
The innovative company AVP Technology has developed nearly three dozen different automatic control systems for all types of Russian electric trains, including passenger electric locomotives (EP20), VL10, VL11, VL80S, VL85, and 2ES5K (3ES5K) freight electric locomotives, and TEP70 and 2TE10 diesel locomotives.

Automatic control systems for mainline diesel locomotives are based on a standardized design and units, as is the entire range of systems for the latest generation of electric locomotives from AVP Technology LLC, all connected via a CAN interface. The CAN network allows for the coordination of different types of devices. Analog and discrete signals received from the locomotive systems are processed, transmitted to the network, and made available to other system units.
A modern automatic train control system is a hardware and software complex. It calculates a route algorithm in real time based on the schedule, track profile, locations of traffic control points, traffic light signals, temporary and permanent speed limits, train weight, and other travel parameters.
The system's display informs the driver of current route parameters: coordinates, speed and time, track profile, locomotive traffic light signal, current and next speed limit, nearest stations and track facilities, schedule compliance information...
